The Head and the Heart
The beautiful Spreckels Theatre in downtown San Diego lies dormant for much of the year, with shows popping in every now and again. But when the Casbah presents a show at the venue, you know it's going to be special, like when they brought Bon Iver and Other Lives, or Fleet Foxes and the Cave Singers or the National and Ramona Falls.
Wednesday is no exception to that pattern, when the Head and the Heart, Blitzen Trapper and Bryan John Appleby will bring some Northwestern life to the theatre. Each of these artists stands on their own: the Head and the Heart performed at Coachella this year to packed tents, along with their sold-out House of Blues and Casbah shows in the past couple years. The last time Blitzen Trapper performed in the area was a sold-out, co-headlining show at the Belly Up. And Bryan John Appleby is no stranger to the city and has been known to tour alongside locals the Silent Comedy. This is an all-ages show and when the Head and the Heart sing "Sounds Like Hallelujah," you'll shake you're head in agreement, and you'll surely be lifted by the power and intensity of "Rivers and Roads."
The show should be out early enough to spring over to the Casbah for the U.K. indie-pop of Blood Red Shoes.
