Solana Beach’s Belly Up is usually the spot to check out of some today’s top touring rock, reggae and folk artists, but on Saturday, the iconic Solana Beach venue will host one of the hottest club nights in town, with up-and-coming electronic projects on hand for the Ocean Beats Tour stop.
Ocean Beats has been on a mission to bring bass music to San Diego for nearly four years, and this bash looks like it’s going to be one of the most hoppin’ installments yet. This time around, former San Francisco club mainstay Ana Sia will occupy a much-deserved headlining spot on the bill.
In a few short years, Sia has transformed from a favorite of dimly lit Bay Area dance floors into a big-time festival pleaser. When she’s not hyping up the crowd, she helps run the top-notch SF electronic label Frite Nite with fellow bass provocateur Salva.
“San Francisco is a much smaller city with a lot of small cliques -- it’s easier to dig in and cross bridges,” she said of her former stomping grounds, before referencing her new hometown. “Los Angeles has a different kind of dedication for musically driven underground nightlife."

Sia is upbeat about joining Southern California’s electronic music scene and her ongoing relationship with Ocean Beats. “We want to expose San Diego to more diverse electronic music by giving them a taste of deep house, garage, techno and a lot more.”
The support for Saturday's show is no joke, either. From the glitchy breaks of the Warp-label affiliated EPROM to the tasteful dubstep musings of DJG, there’s nothing that won’t please a picky EDM fan.
Rounding out the lineup is Frite Nite signee EPCOT and San Diego’s very own Mastah Syphe. Doors are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the show. Take note: the Belly Up is 21+.
