SDMA's 2010

This Sunday at 7 p.m., the 20th annual San Diego Music Awards (SDMA 2010 -- SoundDiego is one of the event's sponsors) return to the incredible Humphreys by the Bay for a night of live music, award swapping, cool-kid socializing and rock & roll debauchery.

In addition to live performances by San Diego’s Night Marchers, Nervous Wreckords, New Mexico, Transfer, and the lovely and talented Miss Erika Davies, SDMA 2010 will present a special Lifetime Achievement Award to Iron Butterfly -- In a gadda-da-vida, baby!

In attendance with SoundDiego and its contributors, I will be presenting an award for Best Alternative. Here’s how the category looks :

  • Beaters
  • Cuckoo Chaos
  • Endoxi
  • Manuok
  • New Mexico
  • Scarlet Symphony
  • Swim Party
  • Writer

I certainly don’t like to play favorites, but, these days, I’ve been spending a lot of time with Writer and Swim Party. However, the other artists sharing the category are amazingly talented and deserve the noted recognition.

Speaking of videos, SDMA 2010 has an amazing collection of performances from years past on their official YouTube channel, found here.  Populated wIth such heavy hitters such Switchfoot, Jewel and Rocket from the Crypt, it solidifies San Diego as a breeding ground for top international talent, and, more important -- in the midst of a soft music industry -- its ability to sustain and stay relevant.

VIP/reserved seating to the 20th annual San Diego Music Awards is sold out, but a few general admission tickets are still available.  Proceeds from the event benefit Taylor Guitars for Schools, which placing guitars in San Diego County elementary schools.

On behalf of SoundDiego, we look forward to seeing you at this truly amazing event, and congratulations to all the musicians: You make us proud.
