    NEWSLETTERS

For those that won’t be heading out to Coachella for the big trek this weekend, there are plenty of fun events packing on the heat in San Diego.

Friday the 13th, Pussy Galore’s monthly night at the Whistle Stop features a headlining performance from Hills Like Elephants, whose new album just came out and it’s getting rave reviews. The band even got 13 CMJ adds in its first week of release -- pretty great for a band that’s less than 4 months old. I’m looking forward to checking them out live. The Darrows will open the show. Plus, I’ll be spinning indie, electro, ‘80s and more throughout the night with Jaime Ali. There’s no cover and you can more info via this link. Other events on my radar include Hype at the Kava Lounge featuring Knowa Knowone, Kimba, Sublimnl Sound System, Skandar and Asteya. Plus, Grindhouse is happening at Typhoon Saloon with a costume burlesque striptease and a grindcore fashion show. If women in metal bikinis using power tools are your thing, you’ll love this night. Or, you can don your favorite '80s attire and then head over to Brick By Brick for a live performance from Bow Wow Wow.

Saturday is Steve Duda at Voyeur, who played there last year during Coachella weekend. You can RSVP to get on the no cover before 10:30 p.m. list here. There’s also an 80's Gothic Resurrection event with headliner David J of Bauhaus/Love and Rockets fame happening at Brick By Brick. Plus, Young Guns presents the Sezio/Collide after-party at El Dorado featuring special guests Keith Sweaty and Rafter doing DJ sets. Gabe Vega and Groundfloor will also be spinning and you can get info via this link.

On Sunday funday, San Diego’s favorite pool party Intervention is back at the Hard Rock Hotel downtown featuring the legendary Paul Oakenfold. Check out the video from last year’s event and get ready for sun, cold cocktails and eye candy galore. Your ticket info is here.

More weekend events are listed in my blog. Make it a safe one and I’ll see you on the dance floor!

Robin Roth is a familiar voice in the San Diego scene.  She is on the air weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 91X, plus she promotes and spins all over town. For more info about upcoming gigs, check out her event blog. Follow Robin on Twitter @robin_roth or submit your DJ listings here.
