Go Green on the Dance Floor

It’s fun not wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day and getting pinched all night long. I did that last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was such a great conversation starter and I met all kinds of new people, mainly of Irish descent. I haven’t decided about this weekend yet, but I do know that there is much green beer and whiskey in my future. Of course, having Paddy’s Day fall on a Saturday is an added bonus.

But first things first: Thursday I’ll be kicking off my evening at Quality Social downtown. There’s been a buzz around San Diego ever since Nicole Novak took over the booking and with good reason. She knows what’s up when it comes to packing the crowds in. I would follow her wherever she goes and support everything she does. Nicole is a rare kind of person in this business; she really cares about the little things and it shows. DJs Groundfloor, David Afterlife and Blancnoire will be spinning house, disco and indie dance during this free night of music. Get more details here. I’m going to be at the venue with camera in tow, filming for SoundDiego, so get there early and maybe you’ll be on TV this weekend when the show airs after Saturday Night Live.

On Friday, My Life Every Day brings in Steve Angello, Steve Aoki, and Zedd to the Valley View Casino Center for an 18-and-up concert from 8 p.m. till 2 a.m. You know Steve Angello as one-third of Swedish House Mafia, and Steve Aoki’s electro house music has brought in collaborations with everyone from LMFAO to Tiesto and Afrojack. Other performers that night include Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and No Body. For more information, visit wantickets.com. Also on that night it’s gonna be a full house as Diddy hosts the Fluxx 2 Year Anniversary Celebration, plus I’ll be DJing for the Kage no Matsuri Shadow Festival as part of Anime Conji at the Town and Country.

After the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival in Balboa Park, Saturday shenanigans include the ShamRock Block Party, which kicks off at 2 p.m. and goes till midnight in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. This 21+ event features three stages and includes performances from the Young Dubliners and the Downs Family plus DJs Tara Brooks and Donald Glaude. Organizers are expecting over 20,000 locals at this party so plan accordingly. For ticket info, visit sandiegoshamrock.com. Other things to check out include the Wobble 1 Year Anniversary Party at Spin and the Clash at Clairemont After Party with Mix Master Mike and DJ Fresh One at the Hard Rock.

These are just a few things on my radar for this holiday weekend and you can get info about other Thursday through Saturday events via my blog here. Don’t forget a designated driver and I’ll see you on the dance floor!

Robin Roth is a familiar voice in the San Diego scene.  She is on the air weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 91X, plus she promotes and spins all over town. For more info about upcoming gigs, check out her event blog. Follow Robin on Twitter @robin_roth or submit your DJ listings here.
