Local Schools Can Make Musical History

Enter your school for a theater building oppurtunity

Inspired by the hit NBC television show Smash, Lowe’s Home Improvement and iTheatrics have teamed up with NBC on a mission to repair and improve underserved high school theaters and to promote theater arts across the nation.

San Diego, of course, boasts a fine theatrical tradition. Top-tier venues have exposed our city to world-class performances for decades. Whether it’s the historical Balboa Theatre, the prolific San Diego Civic Theatre or Balboa Park’s renowned Old Globe, opportunities to absorb the arts can be found throughout the city and county of San Diego.
That said, it’s urgent to point out that SD schools have until the end of Wednesday to submit applications to be considered for the “Smash: Make a Musical” program. Last season, the initiative was attributed with the creation of 30 separate theater programs and was awarded the Thalo Critic’s Choice Inspiration Award.
Thirty program finalists will be announced March 12, and voting will take place online through April 10. The five with the most votes will receive Lowe’s gift cards to assist them with the their respective theater departments.
