Humphrey's, Fair Add Blockbusters

Humphrey's By the Bay and Del Mar Fairgrounds announce huge additions to their summer calendars

If you're not aware, San Diego is in store for some huge summer concerts. At this point, the list of must-see shows is pretty impressive and spans all genres -- and it's only getting better: Humphrey's By the Bay welcomes classic Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd on Aug. 7 as well as alt-rock pioneers the Pixies on Sept. 27!

Having the opportunity to see even one of those bands would make any music fan's day.  Luckily, for us, we get the chance to see both. And if you've ever wanted shout out "Free Bird!" at a concert, your time to shine is right around the corner. The "Sweet Home Alabama" rock gods, Lynyrd Skynyrd, will be breaking out all the blues-rock jamming Humphrey's can handle. This one's sure to sell out so get tickets as soon as possible!

For the music lovers out there that prefer a little more headbanging, the Pixies will be providing just that. The Boston-based band formed in 1986 and rose to fame throughout the '80s and '90s with songs like "Here Comes Your Man," "Monkey Gone to Heaven" and "Where Is My Mind?" Although they weren't the first band to blend indie rock, noise rock and surf music, among other styles -- they are often considered to be one of the forefathers of modern alternative rock. Even Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain said in a 1994 interview with Rolling Stone that his band's ironic grunge song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit," was "basically trying to rip off the Pixies."

As if those shows weren't enough, the Del Mar Fairgrounds also got in on the concert announcment action: Sultry r&b icon Toni Braxton -- along with smooth, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds -- join forces on June 21 for a double whammy of soul goodness at the San Diego County Fair.

Braxton and her longtime-collaborator, Babyface, teamed up earlier this year to drop a chart-topping album of duets titled Love, Marriage and Divorce -- with the lead single, "Hurt You," topping the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart for four weeks upon its release. The number of smash hits between the two artists is simply staggering. Braxton boasts a catalog of songs that include "Unbreak My Heart," "Another Sad Love Song," "Breathe Again" and "He Wasn't Man Enough." Babyface is no slouch either -- he's written number one hits such as "I'm Your Baby Tonight," "End of the Road," "I'll Make Love to You," "Take a Bow," "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" and "Change the World." Any way you cut it, you're in for an evening of phenomenal music on June 21.

So mark your calendars, folks -- 2014 is shaping up to be a live music juggernaut. Be sure to check out the entire Humphrey's Concerts By the Bay calendar here, and go have some fun!
