Get Ready to Rock the Boulevard

El Cajon Boulevard is getting ready to rock out -- the recently announced Lafayette Hotel concert series Rock the Boulevard kicks off July .

The landmark hotel plans on hosting a series of shows in its Mississippi Ballroom every Friday night throughout the month of July.

Rock the Boulevard’s inaugural season offers up a diverse group of musicians, including the jazz artist Miss Ericka Davies (pictured, above) and indie cover rockers Geezer (guys dressed as the elderly (think: 90 years old) rocking out to music from the '90s). The series will hopefully become an annual event showcasing the growing music scene on El Cajon Boulevard, which also hosts the music venues Soda Bar, Eleven and the Til Two, all of which continue to grow in popularity.

It only seems fitting that the Lafayette hosts the event. Since 1946, the historic hotel has used its iconic clamshell stage to develop a notable tie to the music of San Diego. The hotel’s most recent contribution came last year, when it hosted the North Park Music Thing festival (recently renamed the San Diego Music Thing).

The full schedule for Rock the Boulevard:

  • July 1: Geezer, Rio Peligroso, Gregory Page
  • July 8: The Very, Bagdad
  • July 15: Tropical Popsicle, Roxy Jones
  • July 22: Miss Erika Davies, Roy Rapid and the Rhythm Rock Trio
  • July 29: Stephen Rey and the Slicks, The Amandas

All the action will take place at the Lafayette Hotel, 2223 El Cajon Blvd. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the performances from 9-11 p.m. Admission is limited to those 21 and over; an after-party is scheduled in the Red Fox Room.  Tickets are available in the hotel lobby ($10 at the door; $25 for all five shows).
