Disco de Mayo, Baby

This is the weekend where thousands of people dressed in black invade the happiest place on Earth. Yes, Bats Day Weekend is upon us, and I’ll be attending the shenanigans at and around Disneyland. But if you're keeping it local in San Diego, there's plenty to do.

Now, let's not get ahead of the fun that will commence on Thursday night, as it’s Cinco de Mayo. Get your designated driver on and then make plans to attend at least one of several events happening around town. I suggest making the rounds from El Camino to Voyeur to El Dorado to the Office. Pace yourself, because this is amateur night and you don’t want to be one of “those” people that are acting so sloppy that you’ll embarrass yourself. You still have to work on Friday, unless calling in sick is an option.

Speaking of Friday, the Moonshake DJs have a fun evening planned for you at Kadan. This adventure into future disco, spacey house and tech-y grooves features resident DJs Dr. Indulgent, Bob Dazzla and Mark E Quark. On this night, DJ Mikey Lion and Lord Nelson will join in on the action. Get more info here. Over at U-31, you can check out Los Angeles electro-rockers Jump Jump Dance Dance live, along with support sets from DJs Gabe Vega and Colourvision. Plus, roaming photos from itwasthelight. Check out this link for more info.

Saturday night, I highly recommend visiting the Kava Lounge for Club Ascension. Tom King will be hosting and DJing with ChadO, Precursor and Michael. This event happens the first Saturday of every month and features the best in dark, underground dance music. Go here for more details. My other picks for Saturday are Max Vangeli at Voyeur and a special disco edition of Boys & Girls at El Dorado featuring guest headliner Goddollars. This resident of the legendary party A Club Called Rhonda heads down from LA to play some nu and classic disco. You’ll enjoy support sets from Mr. Biggs, Adam Salter and Colourvision as well. Get the scoop here.

Check out more Thursday through Saturday happenings via my blog. Here’s to all of you moms out there, and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
