“American Idol” may not be a thing anymore, but the musical careers it launched -- for better or worse -- certainly still are. As for Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard, I think we’d all be plenty content if they made their foray back into the entertainment industry as an electro-pop duo.
But America’s favorite rock & rollin’ baldy -- the Vin Diesel of music, you might say -- doesn’t let all of his success go to his beautiful, smooth head. Chris Daughtry, frontman of his eponymous band, is coming to the Belly Up on Sunday. That’s right, a Grammy-nominated, worldwide sensation with multiple No. 1 hits is playing San Diego’s intimate 600-capacity hangout to the north. Why? Well, ’cause he’s a nice guy. Seriously.
Daughtry will join beachy pop-rocker Kelley James at the Charley Hoffman Foundation San Diego Pro-Am, a charity concert and auction that will raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, San Diego Junior Golf Association and Pro Kids.
“We are so excited to add Daughtry to the charity party lineup this year,” Hoffman said in a news release. “He and Kelley are going to provide a fantastic show, and I personally can’t wait to see it.”
Hoffman’s foundation has raised more than $2 million since 2008, donating the proceeds to organizations that encourage education, sports and health programs for children living in San Diego and Las Vegas.
