A Weekend That Goes Above & Beyond

Above & Beyond headline the HiFi Festival near Petco Park

Now that October is finally here, we can start getting excited about all that Halloween has to offer. It’s my favorite time of the year, which probably doesn’t surprise most of you -- it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so be on the lookout for events that support the cause.

On Friday, the House of Blues' 20th Anniversary presents Yellowcard Ocean Avenue Acoustic --  the Tour. At the Tin Can, it’s the NFormals, Neighbors to the North and Badabing. On the other side of the live-musical spectrum, the Hellions of Hollywood Tour is at Brick By Brick, featuring Psyclon Nine, Dawn of Ashes, Darks of Heaven, the Shaolin Signal and Squirrelly Arts. At Bassmnt, Adam Salter & Music Is 4 Lovers present Benoit & Sergio. It will be the duo’s first performance in San Diego. Adam Salter, Jon Dadon and Kimbo will also be DJing; you can grab more info here.
Start your Saturday with the Vinyl Junkies Record Swap at the Casbah (11 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Lots of vendors will be selling records in all genres of music. Plus, there will be DJs spinning while you shop. The Pacific Best Fest is happening on the streets of PB from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For your EDM fix, the HiFi Festival hits Petco Park, featuring headliner Above & Beyond. Manufactured Superstars, Kill Paris, Torro Torro, Dylan Talley, Luke Skyy and others will take the stage from 2-10 p.m. at the 18-and-up event; grab details via this link. Later that evening, head to Club Ascension’s monthly night at the Kava Lounge. I’ll be DJing with Michael and Kaerie spinning the best in dark underground music. Go here for more info.  If you’d like to dive into some live bands that night, may I suggest Hepcat with the O.S.S. and the Champions Inc. at House of Blues

On Sunday night, lots of live-music choices, including Travis at House of Blues, Calexico at the Belly Up, Anberlin at SOMA, and New Mexico and Hills Like Elephants at the Casbah.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor.
