A Foxy Fundraiser for Japan

Surf's up! Or at least the boards are ... up for auction.

On Friday night, surf shop Surfindian hosts live and silent auctions to support relief efforts in Japan. Surfboards, art and other collectibles are among the items for sale, courtesy of local artists and businesses. Along with food and drinks, the event includes a live performance by the Red Fox Tails, who recently performed at NBCSanDiego's rebranding party at the W Hotel.

The trio combines jazz, rock and Latin rhythms, but the Oceanside locals prefer to call their style "surfy soul jazz." The Red Fox Tails are mad up of Ron Bocian, Felipe Benavides and Jay Reilly.

As for the fundraiser, it takes place on April 2 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Surfindian, 4652 Mission Blvd., Pacific Beach.

All money from the auctions and additional donations will benefit the U.S.-Japan Council. This non-profit educational organization promotes Japanese-American relations and has raised more than $1.5 million for earthquake relief.
