Zombie Dance Party

You'd have to be a zombie to miss out on the all great musical choices around town this Comic-Con weekend

Freaks, nerds and geeks, unite! Comic-Con is upon us, and there are so many different events this weekend that it’s hard to keep track of them all. Even if you won’t be attending Comic-Con, you can still dress up and join in on the fun. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, as San Diego is packed with locals and those in town just for the weekend. Here are just a few of my favorite things happening Friday through Saturday.

Friday, Weezer will be performing at The Walking Dead 10th-anniversary celebration downtown on Seventh and Island. This is an invite-only event, so unless you know someone that knows someone, good luck. Before that, the band will be signing limited edition Weezer/The Walking Dead posters at FeeLit in the East Village. One of my picks for outside Comic-Con is checking out the B52’s as part of the 91x Del Mar Summer Concert Series. It’s free with your track admission or $20 after the last race; details are here. Elsewhere, get your dance on at Voyeur with Simon Patterson, DJ Ideal and Tristan D. No cover before 10:30 p.m. with your RSVP here. My other pick for Friday is Hotline Comic-Con with Miami Horror, Scattle, Colour Vision and Husslehoff. The party takes place at 1401 E. Street downtown. Grab tickets and more info here. I even heard that if you use the promo code “zombie,” it will save you $5. Who knew zombies could be so giving?

Saturday, the undead will walk the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter, as 91x and FEARnet present the seventh annual Comic-Con Zombie Walk. Dress the part and show up at the Children’s Park within 20 minutes before the walk starts at 6:30 p.m. The event is free, and you do not need a Comic-Con badge to participate. There’s also a pub crawl immediately following the walk. Other options include sticking around downtown for comedian Patton Oswalt at the Spreckles Theater, where he will be recording his upcoming Comedy Central special and comedy album with two shows.  The grand opening of Fashion Whore downtown is at Analog Bar with an early fashion show. Costumes are encouraged, and you can get more info via this link. Mythic Gathering of Legends, San Diego’s Mythic Costume/Cosplay party, is at Balboa Park; details are here. At the Kava Lounge, San Francisco’s Deep City Culture will drop vibes and future-forward beats during their first time in San Diego. Timmy Tutone and the ELEV8 Collective (Osal8, Sqama and Panda Grass) will be supporting the sound waves all night. On the flip side, if you want to check out a great live show that's far from downtown, Slightly Stoopid, Atmosphere and Tribal Seeds hit Sleep Train Amphitheatre.

Sunday, a Comic-Con themed pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel’s Intervention features Dutch DJ/producer Laidback Luke; grab more details via InterventionSD.com. Other options include the Postal Service at the SDSU OAT and Rogue Wave at the Belly Up. Plus, Bar Pink is celebrating its six-year anniversary with the El Vez Punk Rock Revue featuring the Schitzophonics and DJ Vaughn Avakian.

Pace yourselves, have fun and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
