Live Every Day Like It's Your Last

Looking forward to the upcoming three-day weekend and all of the fun shows and DJ events happening in San Diego.

On Friday, LED presents Brazzabelle and Jay Idol at Voyeur. Get in on the no-cover-before-10:30 p.m.-list here. At the Whistle Stop, it’s the indie/Brit-pop night known as F---ing in the Bushes, with DJs Rob Moran and Daniel Sant. Always free and fun! At Quality Social, it's I Love Daft Punk Night; you can get more info here. One of my live-music picks for this night is Ra Ra Riot at the Belly Up. The other is at the Casbah, where four of my favorite local bands are playing: Transfer, the Nervous Wreckords, the Palace Ballroom and Boy King.

On Saturday, it’s Steve Poltz’s fourth annual 50th Birthday Party at the Belly Up. This event features the Rugburns, Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket), Tristan Prettyman and the Lovebirds. At Soda Bar, the Heavy Guilt headlines a night of music in celebration of lyricist/percussionist Al Howard’s birthday. For your dancing fix, it’s '80s vs. '90s at the Whistle Stop, with DJs Corey Biggs and Gabe Vega. Elsewhere, LED presents British DJ, producer and remixer Zen Freeman -- plus Mossberg Pump -- at Voyeur. There’s no cover before 10:30 p.m. with your RSVP. There’s also Diamond Dust at the Flame, hosted by May Star.

This Saturday and Sunday, it’s the Tribute to the Reggae Legends at Port Pavilion Broadway Pier. Formerly known as Bob Marley Day, this has been an annual event in San Diego for 30 years now. This year’s festival features Israel Vibration, Don Carlos, Martin Campbell, Luciano, Mykal Rose and so much more. Grab your info via this link.

On Sunday afternoon, make time for the San Diego Mixtape Society at Local Habit from 2-5 p.m. The theme is 88 Lines About 44 Women: favorite songs with a woman's name in the title. Bring a flash drive, CD, or Spotify link fitting that theme, and you'll receive one random draw in their Give & Go program. In addition, this will be a fundraiser for the Shanty Royce Memorial Dance Fund. The event is free;  21 and up is preferred. For more information, check out this link. My friend’s Sara and Roger are having their 6th Anniversary Show at the Casbah, featuring Bart Mendoza & True Stories, Sundrop Electric, Old Tiger and Listening to Rocks. Two big DJ events on my radar for Sunday. First, there’s Wintervention at the Hard Rock Hotel with Joachim Garraud and his Invasion 3D A/V show. This is the first audio/video show to feature 3D content. Sounds impressive! Doors open at 3 p.m. inside the Legends Ballroom; you can get more info here. There’s also the three-year anniversary of LED at Valley View Casino Center, aka the Sports Arena. Alesso, Morgan Page, Borgore, 3LAU and more will entertain you during a seven-hour 18+ party extravaganza. Your ticket info is here.

Cheers to the holiday weekend -- I’ll see you on the dance floor!
