With Thanksgiving fast approaching, everyone's got turkey on the brain. But our Nov. 29 SoundDiego LIVE event at Seven Grand is the real Thursday event you should be looking forward to this month.
In case you haven't heard, the event will feature Oliver Trolley and the Hampton Beats, plus a VIP happy hour hosted by Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and, for one lucky winner, a free guitar. That's plenty to keep music lovers busy, but our regulars know no SoundDiego LIVE event is complete without our Gargage 2 Glory competition.
VOTE NOW: Pick your favorite band for Garage 2 Glory
For the uninitiated, Garage 2 Glory pits two bands against each other in an online battle to the death. SoundDiego fans -- that'd be you -- vote for the band they like best, and the winner gets to play our SoundDiego LIVE event. This month, the competing bands are the Hollerin and Phantoms.
The Hollerin have a blues-rock sound that emphasizes slick guitars and hard-hitting drums. Singer Christian Taylor has an appropriately gruff voice that feels invitingly familiar but is also unique enough to hold your attention.

Phantoms draw upon classic and punk rock, citing bands like Kiss and Cheap Trick as influences. Songs like "Baby Loves Her Rock n' Roll" invoke those bands' classics "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You" and "Surrender," but frontman Victor Penalosa's voice is more remiscent of local legend John Reis' charismatic snarl. Their music is fast and kinetic, yet smooth enough around the edges to draw you in on the first listen.
Both bands would make a great addition to our Nov. 29 event, but there can be only one winner. To vote for your favorite Garage 2 Glory band, click here. The winner will be decided Nov. 27 at noon.
