    In describing the nasty, endless budget battle in Sacramento, we writers often resort to war metaphors. But one participant, Assemblyman Jeff Gorell of Camarillo, is headed to a real war.

    Gorell, a lieutenant commander in the Navy reserve who was elected to the legislature last fall, is being deployed to Afghanistan. The Sacramento Bee, which noted that Gorell was one Republican whom Gov. Brown had courted (and who will now be unavailable to vote), has details here on how Gorell has arranged to cover his legislative duties while he's gone. Come back home safe and soon, Jeff.
