How State Park Cuts Are Bad for Movie Business

Most interesting read of the morning? Check out this piece in the Los Angeles Times with the following news: the cutbacks in the state parks could be an economic blow for Hollywood.

How's that? It turns out that the California state parks provide backdrops for all sorts of film and TV productions. And the parks can be rented cheaply. In effect, the parks provide a backdoor public subsidy of sorts for California productions, keeping them near and helping out particularly low-budget filmmakers.

It's yet another reason why cutbacks in the parks, which represent a tiny fraction of the state budget, are penny-wise but pound foolish.
