If Californians want high-speed rail, they should pay for it. If they don't want to pay for it, they shouldn't do it.

But with the high-speed rail project short of funds, corners are being cut -- corners that will slow down these trains. The latest news comes from Bay Area, where backers are touting temporary budget cuts that would limit the number of tracks and slow down the trains -- in the name of economy.

And since the point of high-speed rail is that it be fast, one must ask: What's the point?
