Google Names Susan Wojcicki New YouTube Chief

Google named Susan Wojcicki, also known as employee 16, as its new senior vice president of YouTube, it was reported today.

Wojcicki will succeed former YouTube head Salar Kamangar, who is now onto other projects, according to The Re/Code. Google chief executive Larry Page wrote in an emailed statement:

Salar and the whole YouTube team have built something amazing. YouTube is a billion person global community curating videos for every possibility. Anyone uploading their creative content can reach the whole world and even make money. Like Salar, Susan has a healthy disregard for the impossible and is excited about improving YouTube in ways that people will love.

Wojcicki, Google's former senior vice president of Ads & Commerce who helped develop AdSense, will be succeeded by her colleague Sridhar Ramaswamy.

If Wojcicki sounds familiar, it may be because it was in her garage that Sergey Brin and Larry Page created Google. The Stanford grad students paid her $1,700 a month to rent the Menlo Park space. Her younger sister, Anne, also married Sergey Brin in 2007.

Wojcicki joined Google in 1999 as the 16th employee and first marketing manager, according to TechCrunch. She also was important in the acquisition of YouTube.

Wojcicki is known as the most powerful woman at Google -- a certainty now that Marissa Mayer has left Google to head rival Yahoo.
