Spotify No Longer Comes Without Facebook

Spotifty now requires new users to already have a Facebook account to sign up.

There's a new caveat to new members looking to sign up for Spotify's music streaming service: a Facebook account is required. Talk about chaining a huge ball to your leg.

That's right, if you didn't sign up for a Spotify account already, the only way to access the service from here on out is with a Facebook account. What if you've been wanting to jump on Spotify, but hate Facebook with a passion and have left it for Google+? Well, you're out of luck, because that's just how it is.

According to a Spotify rep :

Unfortunately you will need a Facebook account to access Spotify from now on, unless you already have an account set up.

This does not stop you creating the Facebook account adding nothing to it and making it totally private as the Facebook account does not have to be actively used.

Sucks for the n00bs, doesn't it? What's worse is if this ends up becoming a trend. Imagine if you have to use a FB account to sign into Netflix or any other multimedia service that has a deal with Zuckerberg and company. I know that using a FB account streamlines the login process on the Web, but I don't want my FB account being the master key to every service I use. Should I choose to ditch FB in the future, I'll also have to ditch the other services that I do want to retain.

That's not cool. That's not cool to force us into even having a FB account, even if it remains wholly inactive.
