Spotify Hacked, Fix Coming

Spotify announced that it's been hacked and will send users an Android update in the next few days. Those with iPhones or Windows Phone won't need an update, according to the statement.

Chief technology officer Oskar Stal said in a blog post that someone gained unauthorized access to the company system and so far only one user has been affected.

Our evidence shows that only one Spotify user’s data has been accessed and this did not include any password, financial or payment information. We have contacted this one individual. Based on our findings, we are not aware of any increased risk to users as a result of this incident.

Nonetheless, Spotify is having some users logged out of the system, so they must of log in again. Android users will also be given an "upgrade" in the next few days. Windows Phone and iOS users won't need any additional upgrade. Playlists downloaded for listening offline will have to be downloaded against after the new update, according to The Verge.

Spotify's announcement and (mostly) quick fix is probably the best way to handle a security breach. Although it was a small security risk and may be insignificant, the company still told its customers and laid out its plans to handle it with minimal fuss.
