Motorola Preparing to Beat Apple to a Retina Display Tablet

Some five months later, the Motorola Xoom is officially a failure. Motorola messed up big time with its first Android 3.0 tablet. How can old Moto steal some thunder from the iPad 2? Perhaps by borrowing a few elements from its competitors and including a 2048x1536 resolution display.

The latest round of tablet rumors comes from FudzillaFudzilla. The tech blog claims its received confirmation that Motorola's next 10-inch tablet will ditch the 16:10 wide aspect ratio in favor of a 4:3 one (just like on the iPad and HP TouchPad) and will come with a high resolution display. The tablet is said to be much thinner than the fat Xoom (which would mean its weight is also lower), run Android Ice Cream Sandwich and possibly be powered by an Nvidia quad-core Tegra 3 chip.

Nobody has a tablet with a 2048x1536 resolution display on market. Apple is rumored to be working on a Retina Display for its iPad 3 and Samsung demoed a tablet with a 2560x1600 resolution display, but neither company has yet to release anything.

If the rumor is true and Motorola is able to beat everybody to the punch with a gorgeously thin tablet with an equally jaw-dropping display by the end of this year, people might just forget the disastrous efforts of the first Xoom. Fingers crossed!
