Google Earth has found more than 2,000 archaeological sites.

In the old days, if you wanted to stumble upon some archaeological treasure trove of historic artifacts, you would have to go out into the field and look around in person. These days? You can do it from your couch.

That's because over 2,000 potential archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia have been found using the latest and greatest in archaeological tools: Google Earth. David Kennedy from the University of Western Australia scanned 1240 square kilometers looking for sites, and he found plenty. He sent a friend in Saudi Arabia to check on a couple of the sites to verify that what he was finding was legit, and it appears to be the case. So much for adventure.
