The company that created Vessyl, the so-called smart cup, received $3 million in funding.

Mark One created Vessyl, a cup that electronically tracks liquids and nutrition, and apparently it has excited venture capitalists who have sank $3 million into the company led by Felicis Ventures and Horizons Ventures, according to TechCrunch.

Essentially the $99 Vessyl tells people when they're adequately hydrated or if they have consumed too many calories. It gives users information with an LED strip or through an iPhone app. So far, there have been more than $1 million in pre-orders. The price is expected to rise to $199 next year when it heads to stores.

It would seem that many people keep track of their water intake and calories on their own, but Silicon Valley loves gadgets, no matter how ridiculous.
