Got $3,000? Then you can afford Apple’s new Mac Pro which will be available for order starting Dec. 19, Apple announced today.
Apple is mostly proud of its unified thermal core, which seems to be the reason it only gave pictures of that to the press. The $2,999 computer has a 3.7 GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 2GB of RAM each, 12GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage. The $3,999 version comes with 3GB of RAM each and 16GB of memory. The machines can also be made-to-order with more RAM, memory or faster 8-core or 12-core processors, but Apple claims the Macs are already 10 times faster than any other desktop.
The Mac Pro will be available to order starting December 19 through the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores or some Apple Authorized Resellers.
While most people are aware that Apple products tend to be higher-end, in an increasingly laptop and tablet world a desktop doesn't seem as necessary -- and the price isn't cheap. We hope buyers enjoy the inky black Darth Vader-ish design and zippy processor a lot to make up for it.
