Apple Offers $25 Gift Card with $99 Apple TV

Apple is now giving a $25 iTunes gift card to anyone who buys a $99 Apple TV set-top box at its stores or online, according to a report.

The promotion, seen on Apple.com, seems to be a way for the Cupertino, Calif., company to quickly sell its TV hardware and make room for a possible revamp of the system later this year, according to 9to5Mac.

Apple has been reportedly testing the new Apple TV hardware with purported app and game support being readied for later this year. However, readers have a right to be skeptical about the reports. Last year, much of the media said that Apple would be debuting a new Apple TV, but it turned out not to be the case.

Two weeks ago, it was reported that Apple was inking a deal with Time Warner Cable for Apple TV content. Then news broke that cable giant Comcast would merge with Time Warner. The fate of Apple's deal is now unknown.

Still, if someone has been thinking about Apple TV and the $99 has put them off, perhaps a $74 set-top may make it more attractive.
