Apple Hires THX Creator

Apple has hired the Academy Award-winning creator of  Lucasfilm's THX system as its new audio chief, a recent report said.

Leo Laporte, host of  "This Week in Tech," tweeted about the Apple move Wednesday, "I have it on good authority that Tomlinson Holman (of THX fame) is joining Apple to run audio. Major upgrade."

Holman is a sound professor at the University of Southern California and spent 15 years working for Lucasfilm as corporate technical director, according to GigaOm. Holman has designed loudspeakers and amplifiers and his experience covers "all aspects of audio."

If Apple has hired Holman, what does that mean? Will it mean a complete overhaul of Apple's hardware or will it mean a change in its audio files? Holman's experience is in hardware, so I'm thinking his expertise will have to do with perfecting sound in Apple's Macs, iPhones, iPods and iPads .But will he also be creating a signature surround sound for Apple TV?
