Apple bought Palo Alto startup WifiSLAM for $20 million, according to reports.

The tech giant acquired the indoor-GPS company likely for its mobile location services, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The $20 million figure was given by an unnamed source.

Apple confirmed the deal but wouldn't give any specific details. The two-year-old startup WifiSLAM also couldn't be reached for a statement.

WifiSLAM lets mobile apps detect phone users' locations in a building and help developers with indoor mapping -- and did you know one of its founders is former Googler Joseph Huang? Probably not, but it's interesting because Apple needs all the help it can get from Google for its mapping app.

We all recall that Apple Maps was an embarrassing fiasco that caused heads to roll (meaning the executive in charge was fired.) This acquisition can only help improve its product.
