Apple Marketing Chief Dumps Instagram Account

Phil Schiller, Apple senior vice president of worldwide marketing, has publicly said he's quit Instagram because it has too many people. Is this a valid reason, or is this Apple's way of expressing sour grapes that Facebook swooped in and gobbled up one of the iOS's biggest apps?

Schiller wrote in response to an e-mail about him closing his Instagram account about the time the app launched on the Android platform, according to 9to5Mac.

Instagram is a great app and community. That hasn’t changed.
But one of the things I really liked about Instagram was that it was a small community of early adopters sharing their photographs.
Now that it has grow(n) much larger the signal to noise ratio is different.
That isn’t necessarily good or bad, it’s just not what I originally had fun with.

 This isn't really "trashing the service," as Mashable called it, but it could be construed as Schiller saying the service was considered better when it was only on the iOS. At least that's what 9to5Mac seemed to think.

Perhaps Schiller had too many apps and Instagram did become too much for him, or maybe he was annoyed that Facebook picked up the app before Apple could buy it. Either way, we think Schiller's words, "Instagram is a great app" kind of disproves the theory that Schiller was badmouthing the app.
