A new iPad? Best Bet Is Apple Store

Delivery dates are already slipping for the newest iPad, indicative of the high demand for the newest generation of the game-changing device.

Apple told USA Today that "customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased."

And CNET "conservatively" reports that the company could sell 1 million iPads on the first day, alone, at its retail stores.

Given that non-branded retailers like Best Buy and Radio Shack get x-amount of units, Apple's brick-and-mortar stores will get the lion's share of the third-generation tablets. So the best way to ensure you score the new Retina Display version of the tablet is to queue up on March 16 and have credit card in hand.

The first iPad sold 300,000 units on its first day. The iPad 2 moved 500,000 in its first weekend. One market watcher, Matthew Panzarino at TheNextWeb.com, anticipates "a few records" when it comes to sales.

The new iPad comes in at $499 for the 16GB and is available on March 16 in the U.S. The iPad 2 has dropped $100 in price, coming in at $399 for a 16GB version.
