Shatner's Twitter Pilot Gets A Sneak Peak

By now, you may be aware that William Shatner is starring in a CBS sitcom pilot based on the insanely popular “S—t My Dad Says” Twitter feed. Well, one enterprising blogger says he attended a rehearsal of the pilot. He submitted this review, and it’s decidedly positive:

I went to a full rehearsal of the pilot Sunday evening on the WB lot. The pilot, directed by the great James Burrows, did not disappoint. Bleep My Dad Says (working title) is a very funny show that does not rely on the crutch of the Twitter phenomenon. Plus, it’s a perfect fit with CBS’ extremely popular Monday night lineup, which will most likely have one giant hole come the fall.

While the idea of a SMDS TV show sounds like an ill-fated stunt to rival ABC’s “Cavemen” series from a while back (one of the pilot’s cast members was actually on that show), the pedigree they assembled to make this show work is pretty impressive. Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, who turned “Will & Grace” into a long-running hit, are the producers. Burrows is the most accomplished director in the history of situation comedy. Cast members Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan are both MadTV veterans (Sullivan, in particular, is enjoyable in pretty much anything she does). And then there is Justin Halpern, the guy whose Twitter feed started this whole thing.

Halpern is more than a 29-year-old guy who just records his Dad’s thoughts. For a long time, Halpern ran the Holy Taco website, one of the best stops in the blogoworld. Halpern co-wrote the pilot, and the mix of his fresh talents with the crew of veterans placed around him could end up making this show more than a mere curiosity. It sounds downright promising, as long as they change the working title of it, because that working title is s—t.
