Tombs Prepare to be Raided Again

She'll be back.

After two middling big screen adaptations, video game icon Lara Croft appears to be the latest franchise character headed for a reboot.

GK Films, the production company founded by Academy Award-winning producer Graham King, has snapped up the rights to the "Tomb Raider" films and plans on relaunching the franchise in 2013.

“We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise and continuing the TOMB RAIDER phenomenon,” said King in an official statement.

The original "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" and the colon-heavy "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" came out in 2001 and 2003 respectively, and both starred Angelina Jolie in the globe-trotting, dual-gun-wielding, artifact finding title role. In a bit of coincidence, GK Films produced Jolie's latest "The Tourist."

Lara Croft remains one of the most popular and recognizable video game characters in the world, second only to Nintendo's Mario. However, so far the films have yet to successfully translate her adventures to the screen. Seeing as she's basically Indiana Jones in a tube top, you'd expect that to be a little easier to do.

Obviously, it's too early for GK Films to even begin to discuss casting, but rumors are already swirling that "Tron: Legacy" star Olivia Wilde is the frontrunner (Of course, she was also the frontrunner for the "Wonder Woman" TV show, for the "Superman" movie, and for just about every other geek-centric property currently in developmen)

Other names being kicked around are Megan Fox, Sienna Miller, and, yes, even Kim Kardashian.
