“The Killer” Getting Americanized in 3D, Try Not to Be Sad

As frustrating as news of a "Killer" remake may be, just remember that in 2010 we learned that America can in fact remake a beloved foreign film without making a mess of it. Whether anyone will see it is another matter.

Hong Kong director John Woo's masterpiece, "The Killer," starring Chow Yun Fat, is arguably the greatest film of its kind. Now it's getting remade, starring Woo-sung Jung and directed by John H. Lee--and with Woo as producer.

“While all my films are special to me, 'The Killer' is truly one of my favorites," said Woo in a press release (by way of Deadline). "We are thrilled to reinvent it as an English-language film and know it’s in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.”

Yes, everyone's gnashing their teeth, terrified that this new film will be nothing more than a stain on the legacy of the original.

But we all felt the same way we learned that Matt "Cloverfield" Reeves was remaking "Let the Right One In." As it turned out, Reeves' "Let Me In" was a great film in its own right, its paltry box office notwithstanding.

That said, we won't be one bit surprised if this thing is a disaster.
