“The Dictator” Wins the Movie Ad Super Bowl

Never one to miss out on a publicity blitz, Hollywood has been pouring millions into Super Bowl ads, and this year we saw several more films try to leverage the massive audience into future box office receipts.

But there's a strong argument to be made that the studios are wasting their money. The folks at TiVo have the power to track not just which ads get watched, but how many times they're rewatched. Among the films that bought time during last night's broadcast, only "The Dictator" cracked the Top 40, coming in at #24, reported Deadline.

With all the outlets available for wacthign 2-minute trailers, it's possible that the studios could find a better way to spend $2 million than to show a measly 30 seconds. Here you can see last night's movie ads, with their TiVo ranking in parentheses.

Act of Valor (#66)

The Avengers (#43)

John Carter (#75)

Battleship (#61)

The Lorax (#68)

The Dictator (#24)

Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (#48)

G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation (#53)

Safe House (#100)
