"The Avengers" has been wowing fans overseas for more than a week now, garnering near-universal acclaim along with hundreds of millions of dollars. But among the dissenting voices is one A.O. Scott of The New York Times -- and "Avengers" star Samuel L. Jackson is not happy, taking to Twitter to rain down upon the movie critic with a furious vengeance.

"#Avengers fans,NY Times critic A.O. Scott needs a new job! Let's help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!" the Nick Fury actor Tweeted on Thursday in response to Scott's less-than-glowing review of "The Avengers," which ran just days after the Times' Sunday Magazine ran a piece looking back at Jackson's career.

Scott's review decried the film's "overdone combat sequences" and dismissed "The Avengers" as being "a giant A.T.M. for Marvel and its new studio overlords," though he conceded it "is not without its pleasures," citing "the moments... when the assembled heroes have the opportunity to brag, banter, flirt and bicker."

The folks over at The Film Nest came to Scott's defense, tweeting back at Jackson, ""Disappointed to hear @SamuelLJackson respond irrationally to negative review of #Avengers. People aren't entitled to their own opinion?"

Of course, if you know Jackson at all, even just through his film work, you know this did not go unchallenged, as he responded, "That is My Opinion! @TheFilmNest & what's irrational about it? They aren't going to fire his jaundiced ass & You & I Know It!"

You can almost hearing Jackson's iconic voice straining under the weight of the rage.

In the end, Scott will keep his job, "The Avengers" will make about a billion dollars and this will all be forgotten.
