Ryan Gosling Taking “Logan's Run” With Nicolas Winding Refn

Be still our fanboy hearts!

Ryan Gosling and director Nicholas Winding Refn have enjoyed working together on "Drive" that they've agreed to re-team for a remake of "Logan's Run," reported Heat Vision.

The script by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later"), adapted from William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson's 1967 novel, tells of a dystopian future where everyone must submit to execution upon turning 30, in an effort to control global population. Those who refuse are hunted down by "Sandmen." But one Sandman, Logan 5, decides to make a run for it.

The original film is a silly piece of '70s sci-fi, but it starred Farrah Fawcett, so it was at least a little bit awesome. But we've got faith Refn can make something more interesting out of it than the other directors--Bryan Singer ("X-Men"), Robert Schwentke ("RED") and Joseph Kosinski ("Tron: Legacy")--who've been previously attached to the project.

Gosling and Refn recently finished shooting "Drive," one of our most anticipated films of 2011, about a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver. When a bank robbery goes off the rails, the driver must go on the run. The film also stars Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston and Albert Brooks.

What makes the news about "Logan's Run" particularly exciting is that it's a pretty clear indication that all parties involved are thrilled with how "Drive" is shaping up. We can judge it for ourselves Sept. 16.

Gosling can next be seen July 29, opposite Steve Carell in "Crazy, Stupid, Love."
