Garth Brooks is ready to perform again after a seven-year retirement.
Welcome to Watch List, where we identify five things on TV to watch while you try and squeeze one more day out of the turkey, stuffing and cranberries. You can’t really tolerate one more day, can you? When you’re out of gravy? You can? I admire your practicality, my friend. LET’S GO!
UNANSWERED PRAYERS – 9:00PM (Lifetime) This Lifetime TV movie was produced by Garth Brooks and is based on a song that Brooks wrote. No joke. Someone actually made a Garth Brooks song into a movie, and they didn’t even choose “The Thunder Rolls”! I’m outraged. That song is about a woman who murders her cheatin’ hubby! It was practically DESTINED to become a Lifetime movie. Instead, Garth chooses a song about a married dude who faces conflicted feelings when his high school crush moves back to town. It’s just like “Eastbound & Down,” only it takes its rednecks seriously. For a lighter side of Garth adaptations, stay tuned for “Friends in Low Places,” a wacky new comedy coming soon to TBS. ANTICIPATION: AT LEAST IT’S NOT A CHRIS GAINES SONG!
CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS – 9:30PM (ABC) If Garth’s movie ain’t country enough for you, then flip on over to this ABC holiday special featuring (deep breath) Darius Rucker, Sugarland, Leann Rimes (the thunder rolls for her!), Sheryl Crow, Reba (Since when did she drop her last name? I didn’t notarize that), Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, and Kellie Pickler. It’s all the country that could fit into one stocking. We could fit more, but then there wouldn’t be enough room for the bottle of Old Granddad. ANTICIPATION: NO TREE! JUST A FORD TRUCK WITH A STAR ON TOP!
LIE TO ME – 9:00PM (FOX) John Amos guest stars tonight! May of you will always remember him as the Dad on “Good Times,” or as Mr. McDowell from “Coming to America.” Me? I’ll always remember John as the evil turncoat who slit a dude’s throat in “Die Hard 2.” Man, that movie was violent. And awesome. ANTICIPATION: WATCH YOUR NECKS!
RESTREPO – 9:00PM (NatGeo – an NBC/Universal network) Author Sebastian Junger (“War”) and filmmaker Tim Hetherington spent a year embedded with U.S. troops stationed in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. This is the movie they produced. Not for the faint of heart. ANTICIPATION: SERIOUSLY!
HOARDERS – 10:00PM (A&E) A man sleeps in his car because his wife’s hoarding has left him no place to sleep in the house. And because he slept with the woman’s sister. I made that last part up. But really, he may as well. ANTICIPATION: PACKED WITH GOODNESS!
