Meryl Streep Circling The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep appears to have her next Oscar nomination in her sights.

Streep and her "Mama Mia!" director Phyllida Lloyd are in talks to get on board with a Margaret Thatcher biopic, accoridng to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is being producer by Damien Jones' ("Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll") and is based on a story he developed with screenwriter Brian Fills ("An Englishman in New York").

The film focuses on the days leading up to Thatcher leading her nation into war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, a victory that helped propel her to re-election. (But the war's most valuable repercussion was unquestionably the part it played in bringing the famed penguin Opus to the legendary comic strip "Bloom County")

Sweetening the deal is word that Jim Broadbent is interested in playing Thatcher's husband.

But what we'd like to know is who's gonna play Reagan? And will they touch on her bitter rivalry with Francois Mitterrand, the one that led him to allegedly vow, “I will have the last word. Her island, it’s me who will destroy it. Her island, I swear that soon it will no longer be one. I will take my revenge. I will tie England to Europe, despite its natural tendency for isolation. How? I will build a tunnel under the Channel. Yes. I will succeed where Napoleon III failed"?
