Marcia Gay Harden Coming To Your USA Doctor Show

The trend of big name, middle-aged movie actresses migrating to cable television continues unabated. Earlier this month, Debra Winger was set to join HBO’s “In Treatment,” and Diane Keaton will headline the comedy “Tilda” over at the same network. Now comes word that USA has snapped up Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden for their own hit “Royal Pains.” Harden comes to show after a similar stint over at “Damages,” which stars yet another big name actress, Glenn Close. IT’S AN ACTRESS FACTORY, I TELL YOU. From Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, who always has the scoop on such affairs:

Oscar winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has landed a multi-episode arc on Royal Pains, sources confirm to me exclusively. She’ll play Dr. Elizabeth Blair, a surgeon, board member of Hamptons Heritage Hospital, and an adversary-turned-mentor to Jill (Jill Flint). Harden, who last year added a Tony to her enviable awards chest for her tour de force performance in "God of Carnage," first appears in Pains‘ season 2 premiere on June 3.

Harden is the kind of actress who instantly improves the quality of any project she appears in. I’ll always remember her, of course, as Verna in “Miller’s Crossing,” which was her first big screen role, a role she absolutely killed. “I suppose you think you raised hell.” Oh sweet Ginger Brown, that’s a great movie. Her presence on “Royal Pains” gives that show an extra shot of credibility, and suggests it won’t be the last time the blossoming hit will attract quality guest stars.

Harden pops up on “Royal Pains” just over a month for now.
