Johnny Depp Wooing Rob Marshall to Direct Him in “Thin Man” Remake

Between takes on the set of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," Johny Depp has been hounding director Rob Marshall for a reunion to remake one of the greatest comedies ever.

Depp wants Marshall to direct him in a "The Thin Man," reported Vulture. The original 1934 classic starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as former detective Nick Charles and his millionaire heiress wife Nora Charles.

"The Thin Man has long been a favorite of mine and with Rob at the helm, I know we're in great hands," Depp told Deadline, who also reported that Terry Rossio, Jerry Stahl and Christopher McQuarrie are in the running to write the new screenplay, which would maintain the Depression Era setting.

"The Thin Man" is a clinic in witty fast-paced dialogue, faux drunkenness and cracker jack detective work, and was so popular it spawned five sequels and a short-lived TV series.

Depp has mastered the art of the crafty booze-hound over the course of the Pirates films, as well as in his turns as Hunter S. Thompson. The role of Nick Charles is a natural fit, though trying to match Powell's timing and delivery would be a daunting task even for Depp.

But there's no Nora, no script and Marshall is said to be considering an opportunity to direct the film adaptation of the Broadway hit "Wicked." Who knows? Maybe this is just a case of Depp blue-skying, throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Considering Marshall made his bones directing "Chicago," which won seven Oscars out of 13 nominations, it would be hard for him to pass up a chance to tackle "Wicked."
