“Hurt Locker” Poised to Take Control in Oscar Hunt at Golden Globes

With two more wins at Friday's Critics' Choice Awards, "The Hurt Locker" put a little more distance between itself and the rest of the field in the race for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

Besides Best Picture, "Hurt Locker" is nominated for Best Screenplay, Mark Boal, and Best Director, Kathryn Bigelow, who is on a collision course with ex-husband James Cameron, who's been nominated for "Avatar."

Also in the running for Best Picture is "Avatar," "Inglourious Basterds," "Precious" and "Up in the Air."

Interestingly, "Up in the Air," which leads all films with siix nominations tonight, is something of an afterthought. When the film first came out, critics were falling all over each other hailing it as a triumph. But as awards season has marched on, the film has fallen back to the pack. Star George Clooney and friends could very easily walk away from tonight empty-handed.

But no matter what happens, we'll be here offering a blow-by-blow account of tonight's show.
