The word's been out that a sequel to "Eastern Promises" was on the way, but Vincent Cassel, who starred as the dirtbag scion of a Russian mob boss, has dropped some hints about what we can expect.

Cassel is currently making the rounds in support of his two-part gangster epic "Mesrine," the first installment of which is out Aug. 27. But he's been happy to talk about the sequel to 2007's "Eastern Promises," in which he starred as Kirill, whose rape of a 14-year-old girl is at the center of the story.

Cassel was recently reunited with the "Eastern Promises" director, David Cronenberg, on the set of "A Dangerous Method," about the friendship/rivalry between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung.

"We talked very seriously about 'Eastern Promises 2' and it's going to be shot in Russia with Viggo (Mortensen) and myself," Cassel told Coming Soon.

Vincent Cassel stars as one of France's most notorious criminals, a man responsible for 32 bank heists and four jailbreaks. The film is out Aug. 13.

    But wait -- there's more...

"There's a script, David Cronenberg wants to do it. The script is really good, so hopefully it's going to go," Cassel told The Playlist. "I think David wants to make another film before [the sequel], but whenever they're ready, I told them, 'I'm here.' I'm dying to do the sequel, and to be honest to work with Viggo Mortensen and David, it's such an incredible experience. David is really easy to work with, it feels so [effortless] and when you see the results it's always very compelling."

As we've said before, considering how great most of "Eastern Promises" was and how terrible the ending was, we'd welcome a sequel.
