“Daredevil” Will Return, Has a Director

Another failed comic book movie that's less than 10 years old, another knee-jerk "reboot."

Following on the heels of The Hulk (made in 2003, remade in 2008), The Punisher (which has been attempted, unsuccessfully, three times already) and Spider-Man (all it took was one bad installment and they pulled the "reboot" ripcord) comes word that 20th Century Fox is going to give "Daredevil" another shot.

And, according to Collider, "30 Days of Night" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" director David Slade will be at the helm.

"Daredevil" is the story of Matt Murdock who, as a young boy, was struck blind by a vat of radioactive waste. Although the accident took his sight, it gave him bat-like radar senses which he uses to fight crime under the guise of horned hero Daredevil by night, while crusading as a lawyer by day.

Fox produced a "Daredevil" movie in 2003 starring Ben Affleck as Murdock, Jennifer Garner as mysterious enemy/ally Elektra (who got her own movie in 2005), and Colin Farell as the villainous Bullseye.

Directed by Mark Steven Johnson (who also made the excretable "Ghost Rider"), the original "Daredevil" was a step back for a genre that had started to gain respect after Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and Sam Raimi's original "Spider-Man." "Daredevil" was, frankly, a silly, self-serious mess.

No word on casting yet, although "Tron: Legacy" star Garret Hedlund's name has been floated around as a potential Murdock.
