Arrr... Is that the Captain Morgan's Rum pirate we see? Nope. It's Christian Bale with one of the more unfortunate goatees we've seen in awhile. Ditch it, Christian.

With "The Fighter" in the can, Christian Bale is considering new projects, with an original story from "300" director Zack Snyder among the frontrunners.

"The Last Photograph," a story that Snyder conceived back in 2007, the story “revolves around a photograph that becomes the catalyst for a journey two men undertake through war-torn Afghanistan," according to Pajiba, who broke the news of Bale's interest.

Snyder's idea has been turned into a script by Kurt Johnstad, the writer who penned Snyder's breakout hit, "300." Russian director Sergei Brodov has long been rumored to helm the project, but now Niels Arden Oplev ("The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") appears to be in the mix.

There are few actors as talented as Bale working today, but his last two films, "Public Enemies" and "Terminator Salvation," were both huge disappointments. But he's already got "Untitled Terrence Malick Project" on his dance card, due out some time in 2012, as well as Chris Nolan's third Batman movie, scheduled for release on July 20, 2012, so things are looking up.

Snyder is putting the finishing touches on "Sucker Punch," which he's described as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns," in preparation for its March 25, 2011, release. Snyder recently told MTV that he would unveil footage at ComicCon, and expressed doubts about the rumored conversion to 3D, which can only be considered good news.

Meanwhile, David O.Russell is preparing "The Fighter," which stars Bale and Mark Wahlberg, for a Dec. 10 release.
