Bridges Finally Goes Home a Bride

Jeff Bridges has certainly given better performances and starred in better films, but Bad Blake in "Crazy Heart" was the right role in the right year for the Hollywood veteran who first nominated for "The Last Picture Show" in 1971.

"Mom and dad! Yeah look! Woo-hoo! Thank you mom and dad for putting me onto such a groovy profession," said Bridges, whose father Lloyd is a Hollywood legend in his own right, and his mother Dorothy was an actress and poet. "This is honoring them as much as it is me."

Bridges had previously been nominated for Bets Supporting Actor for "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and "The Contender" and Best Actor for "Starman." His being overlooked for his epic turn as "The Dude" in "The Big Lebowski" remains one of the great mysteries of the Academy's history.

Again, Bad Blake may not have been Bridges' best, but it was the best of 2009 and that's all that mattered tonight.
