Green walls have been popping up all over Europe thanks to French designer and botanist Patrick Blanc, who is best known for his vertical gardens at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. Now the verdant creations are coming to our side of the Atlantic with this 4,072-square-foot installation, which will be North America's largest when it opens tomorrow at Pennsylvania's Longwood Gardens. Covered with 47,000 plants (mainly ferns), the living surface was designed by landscape architect Kim Wilkie for a public restroom facility. We love how the eco-friendly design makes going to the loo a stunning experience while removing an estimated 15,500 pounds of dust and toxins from the air each year. [Via Inhabitat.]
