No, you do not need to be a Carole King super fan to love the new musical "BEAUTIFUL" based on her incredible life story. Trust us, you will find yourself very familiar with most every song in this delightful show, and you will exclaim, "Oh wow, she wrote this song? They wrote that song?!" ("they" as in Carole's good friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, another crackerjack musical songwriting team who came up at the same time as Carole and her husband and music-making partner Gerry Goffin).
Jessie Mueller plays the lead role and utterly nails it, singing so evocatively of the real King, and bringing a warmth and good humor to her characterization. "BEAUTIFUL" covers King's career during the years of the late 1950s to the early '70s, a time of epic cultural changes, and Mueller is completely convincing throughout this arc. She is joined by a wonderful cast, in particular, Jerrod Spector as Barry Mann. Spector recently ended his run in "Jersey Boys" after a record 1500 performances as Frankie Valli and is utterly charismatic in his joke-cracking and singing.
"BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical" is exactly what a show is supposed to be — entertaining, captivating, moving, and just plain FUN. Visit the website and get your tickets now.
