In today's economy when diners are holding back on eating out or bringing it down a notch, one local restaurant gets it and is offering up a "new savory happy hour menu and drink special."

The folks at Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy launched the new menu June 29. The menu offers items at a fraction of their normal prices from Monday through Friday between 4-7 p.m.

Parisian-trained dessert chef Karen Krasne, who compromises nothing when it comes to her luscious desserts, which are gorgeous enough for a contemporary art exhibit, sees an opportunity to entice diners who are holding out for more affordable eats.

Thus her new "artfully prepared selection," as its described is now on the menu. It lists Krasne's Australian Dukkah, which is a "savory blend of Macademia nuts, coconut, poppy seeds, cumin and fennel, with warm ciabatta bread and extra virgin olive oil for dipping" for $5. Or try a Gourmet Half-Panini for $6 with either turkey breast or feta cheese or imported Italian tuna.

Still, it woudn't be a happy hour without featured drinks like a beer of the week for $3 or wine by the glass for $8.
