It is memories of loved ones and the strength of survivors that are fueling 24 straight hours of scrapbooking madness with the hope of helping to find a cure for breast cancer.

Over 100 people are staying up all night at Tri City Pavilion Shopping Center in Vista on Saturday, October 17, through Sunday, October 18, for a scrapbooking marathon. The goal is to raise $70,000 for awareness and research through Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The money will be raised through donations from participants, a silent auction of the crafts made at the event and through online donations on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Web site.

Camille Akin, the founder of Ever After Scrapbooks has been hosting the event for five years and has raised more than $250,000 for breast cancer. She said she started the event because her best friend and mentor who helped her start the company died after a long battle with cancer.

"Breast cancer affects women in their most productive years. With current statistics suggesting that one in eight women will develop breast cancer, it is more important than ever to raise awareness and do everything we can to help find the cure."
