San Diego's Great Science Experiment

The San Diego Science Festival held a news conference at Petco Park Tuesday, announcing the second annual Excite Your Mind expo. The citywide celebration of science and innovation includes events, lectures and activities to engage everyone from parents to science professionals. It wasn't your average news conference.
After the speeches, students from San Diego high's School of Science and Technology showed off their stuff. Amid the beakers and billowing smoke, you could see Padres players taking part in science lessons, including third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff, who caught balls from an electromagnetic launcher. He said he loved science when he was in school.
"It was one of my favorite subjects in school," Kouzmanoff said. "I enjoyed mixing all the stuff together, playing with the acid, all the proteins."
The expo will take place the week of March 20 all over the city, culminating in a science "Expo Day" at Petco Park on March 27.
